HOW DOES INTERNET ADDICTION MAKES US VULNERABLE?

When we talk about the internet, we're talking about a massive network of information. It's unavoidable in our period, given the speed with which the world is evolving technologically. I frequently refer to the internet as a "global connector," because it connects people from all over the world. Because messages are transmitted in a matter of seconds, I call it "air messenger." All of the above can be accomplished through a variety of channels, including Whatsapp, Facebook, Telegram, Twitter, Koo, 2go, and others. Gmail, Outlook, and Yahoo Mail are among the various email programs available.

What is the definition of addiction?
Addiction is defined as an individual's inability to stop using a technology, substance, engaging in a behavior, or participating in an event without contemplating the consequences, which may include psychological or physical harm.

Online addiction is defined as a strong desire for internet services such as social media and the like, as well as a loss of identity as a result of its use and a willingness to continue using it despite negative repercussions. People's addiction to the internet can occasionally turn into a personal problem and then into a social problem.

Internet addiction contributes to internet victimization; as a result of addiction, many people become victims of Internet frauds such as. Identity theft, credit card fraud, and lottery fraud are all examples of fraud. It does not stop there; it also encompasses the following.

1. Phishing
This entails deceiving someone via email by sending links to a phony website where you will be asked to reveal confidential, financial, or financial information such as passwords, account numbers, or transaction information. The most common strategy is to send you an email threatening terrible consequences if you do not act or login right away.

2. Vishing
A phone hoax in which fraudsters attempt to deceive the victim into disclosing personal, financial, or security information or transferring money to them is known as voice phishing.

3. Clickjacking is a type of extortion.
This happens when a human, automated script, computer programme, or auto clicker impersonates a legitimate user of a web browser and clicks on an ad without having any interest in the goal of the ad's link in order to generate cash.

4. Spear phishing
This is a type of phishing attack that targets specific individuals. It entails sending harmful emails to targeted people within a company. Rather than sending a bulk email to thousands of people, we usually send it to specific employees at certain organisations. It's usually tailored to give the victim the impression that they have a relationship with the sender.

5. Bait and switch
This type of deception is commonly utilised in retail sales, but it is also used in other situations. Buyers are first enticed by vendors who offer low-cost products, but when they arrive at the store, they learn that the advertised items are not available or are encouraged by salespeople to consider similar items at a higher price, a practise known as "switching."

Conclusion
Victimization on the internet is exacerbated by internet addiction. As a result, many people fall prey to Internet frauds such as identity theft, credit card fraud, and lottery fraud. People's internet addiction can sometimes become a personal problem, and ultimately a society problem.

THE MISMANAGEMENT OF RESOURCES BY THE NIGERIA POLICE

The news that surfaced in Nigerian media a few weeks ago about the loss of rifles and ammunition from the Nigeria Police Force's (NPF) Armory division is extremely distressing because no traces or locations for the arms have been discovered. A security agency tasked with safeguarding people's lives and property has failed to safeguard the assets under its control! So, how do we refer to this situation? ... Even though the arms were declared to be unusable and expired, I referred to it as responsible irresponsibility. Also, so-called "expired" guns cannot be guaranteed to not discharge. The Nigeria Police Force is a well-organized security force, but it has failed to account for 178,459 guns. According to the Armory Section of the Police, there have been 88,078 AK-47 rifles and 3,907 miscellaneous rifles and pistols among various police formations since December of 2018. Not only that, as of January 2020, the missing weaponry and ammo are still unknown. The agency'...
